West Kirby Grammar School has an award winning catering team, who in 2014 won the coveted ‘Team of the Year’ in the Education sector of the Sodexo Star awards. All food conforms to the Government’s food standards on nutrition for school caterers ensuring a healthy balance during the school day. Their aim is to promote healthy food at reasonable prices. Sodexo work with the celebrity chef Paul Rankin, who visited West Kirby in their Centenary year.
There is a wide variety of both hot and cold dishes served daily and a high take up of students who choose to eat Sodexo’s lunch. The popular deli bar provides a delicious alternative to cooked meals and there is “a wrap” of the day.
Breakfast is served daily and there are snacks available at break time.
The Catering Manager is a member of the Healthy Schools Implementation group and West Kirby has exceeded the standard for healthy food set by the National Healthy Schools standards.
During the summer term we invite parents and grandparents to have lunch with their daughter and granddaughters. Feedback is very positive and parents are impressed by the quality of the food.
Sodexo actively support UK farming and have developed a regional sourcing strategy. They raise money for community projects.
Themed days are very popular and help make the dining area at the heart of the school community at West Kirby Grammar School. Multicultural event from round the world are celebrated such as Diwali and Australia Day.
