The Sixth Form at West Kirby encompasses an excellent learning environment, a great community spirit and outstanding opportunities to develop as a young person. All Sixth Form students achieve their full potential. Our examination results speak for themselves and are amongst the best in the country.
We provide a supportive atmosphere in which our students feel that they belong. The small tutor groups enable all our students to be treated as individuals and feel valued. The support offered by staff is outstanding.
Students grow in confidence and believe in themselves.
In addition to fulfilling academic potential, students develop the key skills essential for success beyond school. These include communication, teamwork, initiative and independence.
Sixth Form life revolves around the modern purpose built Sixth Form Centre and Easedale, the Sixth Form house. They contain Sixth Form teaching areas, common rooms and a kitchen. A deli bar in the dining room is a popular rendezvous for Sixth Form students throughout the day. There is a dedicated media suite for our Sixth Form students and a well-stocked library. Technology is a fast developing area of the school’s facilities and Sixth Form students can bring their own device in addition to using the school computers.
Sixth Form life offers a lot more independence. We all have different hopes and dreams and it is our job to help support and fulfil those ambitions. Careers support and advice is a key element of the Sixth Form programme. Careers advice is tailored to meet individual needs, and students are given careful guidance to make informed choices. Expert guidance for UCAS applications is given and there are strong relationships between tutors and students. Many benefit from work experience.
From Zumba to Critical Thinking and Mandarin, there are new challenges to suit all tastes and interests. The Sixth Form is far more than just academic study and offers opportunities to start new interests.
Students are encouraged to volunteer for community service. Placements are arranged in a wide variety of places including hospitals, primary schools and riding for the disabled.
West Kirby Sixth Form students take on many positions of responsibility. They are House Captains, Prefects and Head Prefects. Younger students enjoy the Sixth Form students working with them as form prefects, peer mentors and science mentors. Some Sixth Form students run clubs for the younger students. The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme is strong. Leadership opportunities abound.
