Sixth Form Admissions
West Kirby has a successful Sixth Form where students achieve outstanding results, receive excellent advice and guidance and enjoy first-class pastoral support.
Applications are welcomed from both female and male students who studied at other schools for their GCSEs. Approximately 35 - 40 new students join West Kirby's Sixth Form each year. New students flourish and enjoy studying at West Kirby. They are elected to be school officers and participate fully in the wider life of the school.
We look after new students and ensure that they are well supported in their first few weeks in the school. The induction programme is an exciting and fun way to be introduced to Sixth Form life at West Kirby and a great way to make new friends.
All students wishing to enter the Sixth Form must achieve at least 5 GCSEs at grade B or above with Mathematics at Grade 5 or better and English at grade Grade 6 or better. If a student scores Grade 5 in English, but Grade 6 in English Literature, a place may be offered. Ideally students should have GCSEs at grade A in the subjects they wish to study at Advanced level. In order to study Mathematics, a Grade 7 in GCSE Maths is essential (Further Maths requires Mathematics GCSE at Grade 8+). To study Biology, Chemistry, Physics, an A/A* grade is sought (a B grade in all three sciences is a minimum requirement). To study a Modern Language, an A/A* grade at GCSE is strongly recommended.
An Open Evening was held on Wednesday 16 October. If you missed this, please contact Mr Scott, Deputy Headteacher for a tour of the school via firstname.lastname@example.org
The closing date for applications to our Sixth Form is has now passed. If you still wish to make an application, please contact email@example.com in the first instance.
Meetings to discuss subject choices and future plans are held in the late Autumn/early Spring Term. We will be in touch with all applicants to discuss a convenient time to visit WKGS.
