Head of Department: Mrs J Williams
The Music department at West Kirby Grammar School consists of two teachers, who are subject specialists plus a visiting team of instrumental tutors who are all experienced and well qualified professionals.
At Key Stage 3 all students study Music and it can be continued at GCSE in Year 10. Music is also available at A-level. In recent years, students have entered degree courses at the universities of Oxford, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Cardiff and the Royal Northern College of Music.
Our GCSE results were 100% A* - B in 2014.
Students in Years 7 - 9 are given a wide musical education which includes singing, performing, original composition, listening and musical appreciation, historical context, basic music theory, music from non-Western cultures, workshop experiences and live performances wherever possible.
There are two teaching rooms with access to technology and a number of practice rooms.
Extra Curricular Music
There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities at lunchtimes and after school and are directed by the two music teachers at the school and by our instrumental team. These include Junior Singers, Junior Players, Woodwind Ensemble, Flute Choir, Guitarchestra and Chamber Choir. We have a regular series of concerts and lunchtime recitals; also competitions, productions and tours abroad.
