Gifted & Talented
Able, Gifted & Talented
Co-ordinator: Mrs M Szuplewski
Students are identified as having academic potential on entering the school in Year 7 using their Key Stage 2 results or the Cognitive Ability Tests (CAT). Departments also nominate groups of students who are particularly able in their subject area. These groups are reviewed regularly and all teaching staff are made aware of who these students are so that they can make sure their lessons have a sufficient level of challenge.
There is a vast range of extension and enrichment activities offered to all students that can be accessed by the gifted and talented students but the school is also a centre for North West Gifted & Talented Challenge Events, a local organisation that organises Saturday workshops for Years 7 & 8. Girls will be invited to these events as they occur. This provides them with the opportunity to work with other students with similar interests and abilities from across the North-West of England.
Our most able students are encouraged to apply for the top universities and have the opportunity to visit Oxford and Cambridge both for Open Days and for subject-specific days.
