Head of Department: Mrs K Waight
The Computing department at West Kirby Grammar School consists of two, both of whom are Computer Science specialists.
At Key Stage 3, students study Computing for one lesson per week. Topics include programming, foundations of computing, under the hood, algorithms, sequences, future technologies and prototyping as well as developing skills for Key Stage 4. We offer GCSE Computing, which attracts two teaching groups per year.
The department has excellent results, achieving 100% pass rate at A2 level for the past several years and 94% achieving A* - B at GCSE. Our first cohort of GCSE Computing students achieved 100% A*-C with over 90% A*-B.
The department has two computer rooms, one with interactive whiteboard and one with an i-TV technology. Extra-curricular activities include lunchtime activities, whilst past visits have included The Gadget Show and Manchester Airport.
