Awash with colour in Art!
The Art Department had many different projects taking place during Activities Week. Here is a flavour of what our students were able to do beyond the confines of the traditional art classroom.
Mural Painting with our Artist in Residence
Lucy Moxon, a recent graduate from Liverpool John Moores was artist in residence in the art department during activity week. She started working on a mural with 20 year 9 Fine Art, Art Textiles and Graphic students on Monday 3rd July and some year 7 students on Wednesday 5th July. The theme was 'Family- all together' and her design incorporated flowers and birds symbolising different countries and cultures from around the world. She completed it for the Art Tech exhibition on the 13th July.
Billie Pearson won the John Ockenden Prize for Art which was chosen by Deeside Art Group who came into school to view work by year 13 fine art students. It was exhibited at their art centre on Westbourne Road, West Kirby where Billie was presented with the prize on 6th July. The exhibition was until 9th July. Billie was a year 13 A' level Fine Art student whose work was chosen for its technical skill and sensitivity to the themes of 'Sense of Place' for her personal investigation and A' level Exam 'Interiors'. Billie is hoping to pursue an art career and is starting a Art Foundation studies course at Liverpool City College in September.
Year 7 produced art work after researching this artist who produces sculpture and land art based on nature found in the environment. Students worked in groups collecting leaves, twigs and produced their own interpretations out on the field.
Roald Dahl Illustrations for Concert
Art work was produced by art students in year 9 on the 3rd July. This work was based on the character illustrations by Quentin Blake for the books of Roald Dahl . The work was displayed for the Summer concert on Thursday 6th June.
